Aileen Lamond Smith

A love of colour and historical houses

Aileen was born in Dundee, Scotland has an honours graduate degree in pure art from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, majoring in drawing and painting. An additional degree in education at Moray House College, Edinburgh, led to her spending several years in art education programmes for senior students.

She arrived in the Caribbean in 1973 with her husband, Iain, an established and respected architect and has lived in the Cayman Islands, Sint Maarten and Anguilla ever since.

Aileens works are always in oils and usually on large canvases. The primary technique is palette knife with thin glazes. Major subject matter focusses on boats, landscapes, seascapes and buildings, with a true desire to bring out the historic significance of traditional Caribbean design in this unique architecture.

This culminated in a wonderful show, along with Iain, entitled: The Way They Built.

These current prints record styles of traditional Anguillian houses. The originals are part of the permanent collection of the Government of Anguilla.
