Joël Gauthier

An important Haitian artist, inspired by Rousseau....

Gauthier, a more contemporary Haitian artist, was born in Mireille in 1955 and received almost instant recognition when he began painting as a teenager.

Rousseau-inspired in his twenties, he took on vivd scenes of jungle animals, universally known.

Great depth, wide colour ranges are his trademark and his style is often copied.

Gauthier's works are in Galleries in both Port-au-Prince, Washington D.C. as well as at Savannah Gallery, here on Anguilla
