Pierre Louis Riché
His figures are always 'dressed to the nines"
Born in 1954 in Cap Haïtien, Riché studied philosophy before turning to painting at the age of 20. He started out using historical themes and studied in the atelier of Philomé Obin.
He soon developed an interest in painting people, generally women, who were very large in figure, Riché giving them the nomenclature, " grosses patates. "
His images were often of very unique individuals, whose bodies generally consume the entire canvas. Whether male or female, his figures were always " dressed to the nines. "
Riché generally paints several canvases at a time, working on small areas, then moving on another, allowing him to complete some several works at a time.
His paintings have been widely exhibited in major Haitian galleries and were part of an exhibition in France in 1996
