Stafford Schliefer

Award-winning artist is one of Jamaica's finest

Stafford was born in Kingston, Jamaica in 1939. He has been a professional artist since 1960, expressing his work in the mediums of oil, watercolour, pencil and pastel, as well as his own formulae on other oil-based media.

His work has been shown around the world since 1969 in both group and individual exhibitions. Venues have been: Galerie Mairaux in Los Angeles, California, the Commonwealth Institute Art Gallery in London, England and the First Biennale de Sao Paulo, Brazil.

He has also been honoured with numerous awards, including second place, Purchase Award, in the United States Postal Service Bi-centennial Art Contest, Phoenix, Arizona; two Certificates of Merit in the 1969 & 1971 Jamaica Festival Art Exhibitions and represented the USA in the second World Black and African Festival in Nigeria in 1977.

Staffo rd's work has been presented to Pope John Paul in 1971, Nelson Mandela,1994 and to Bill Clinton, also in 1994.

His work is currently in the exhibition "Caribbean Visions: Contemporary Painting and Sculpture," touring out of the Center For The Fine Arts, Miami, Florida
